We’ve just completed a 3-day, Advanced GYROTONIC® Training course to literally, take our practice as individuals and teachers, to the next level.
Our experience over the last few days affirms our belief that exploring movement and the limits of our personal potential is an endless journey. So, even though we have “aha” moments and “wow, I think I finally have this”, that sustenance holds us over only temporarily. As movers and teachers we always find ourselves hungry for more.
Being satiated for now, though, we wanted to share a few gems from our weekend with Master Trainer, Dawn Swatchick, of Los Angeles. Dawn has studied extensively with Juliu Horvath, is versed in all aspect of the Gyrotonic Expansion System® and is truly a poetic mover.
Gem 1: “Don’t Finish it, Fulfill it”. Encouraging words to stay fully engaged, energetically and mentally, with each exercise. Fill the movement with intention, breath and strength carrying it to its fullest possible expression. (Can you feel yourself starting to perspire?)
Gem 2: “Get Moving, Make Wind” - emphasis on MOOOVING. Adding pace creates momentum. Momentum can be beneficial to break up restrictions and push energy through congested tissues. It’s a call for those who get stuck in their heads to become more visceral, less cerebral! (You’re out of your comfort zone)
Gem 3: “Settle”. The circularity and pulsating rhythms of Gyrotonic movements churn things up internally. As like the calm after the storm, take a few moments at the end of each sequence to settle in a state of easeful being. (This is delightful).
Our gratitude to Dawn Swatchick for her generosity. If you, too are hungry to hear more, we encourage you to watch the short film featuring Juliu Horvath, Gyrotonic’s creator, found on our homepage.
